The English violinist Albert Sammons made extraordinary contributions in the development of works by British composers, during the early 20th Century. Along with an illustrated talk, this recital explores Sammons’ significant exchanges with composers, and his unique interpretations in the Violin Sonatas by Delius, Elgar and Ireland.

BBC Radio 3 Late Junction broadcaster and DJ Nick Luscombe presents a night of Japanese music with rare recordings, live performance and conversation mixing the worlds of classical and avant-garde to electronic, pop and rock. There will be a talk and performance from London-based violinist and writer Midori Komachi, plus words and music from Clive Bell, the Japanese music expert and performer.

 Makoto Nomura (Improvisation), Kumiko Yabu (Percussion), Abirdwhale (Composition), Verity Lane (Composition)

Midori will be presenting pieces for solo violin by contemporary Japanese composers, exploring the world of Japanese traditional sounds expressed by a Western instrument: challenging perceptions, pushing boundaries and discovering new possibilities. Midori will also be introducing folksongs from Japan, along with her arrangement for solo violin.
